16:39, 29 March 2014
ASTANA. KAZINFORM Astana takes part in the global World Wide Fund for Nature's Earth Hour event today, on March 29, which is marked by millions of people worldwide switching off all non-essential lights for one hour. The city is expected to turn off the lights at 20.30 by local time.
Kazakhstan has joined the Earth Hour in 2009 with Astana, Almaty and more than 400 companies participating in the event so far. About 60 towns more joined this movement in 2011. 54,000 buildings plunged in darkness then. Year after year the Earth Hour gains momentum involving more and more people, cities and countries.
