Astana to host World Judo Championship this year

ASTANA. KAZINFORM - The World Judo Championship is planned to be held in Astana this year, Secretary General of the Kazakhstan Judo Federation Abai Kaimakov announced at the meeting of the Ministry of Culture and Sports on Wednesday (January 21).

"Over the past five years we've hosted two World Cups, two Grand-Prix and other big tournaments. Given the success of our judokas, the International Judo Federation granted us the right to hold the world championship in Astana," he elaborated. According to Mr. Kaimakov, the world championship will bring together athletes from 150 countries. He expressed hope that Kazakhstani judokas will demonstrate great results at home. "Hopefully, we will haul gold medals," he added. The Secretary General of the Kazakhstan Judo Federation also noted that construction of the Judo Center in Almaty city will complete this year. The center is large enough to host judo tournaments and training camps.
