Astana plans start of bikeways' construction in 2014

ASTANA. November 21. KAZINFORM - In Astana before the international specialized exhibition EXPO-2017 there will be 50 kilometers of bicycle paths, said the Deputy Chairman of the Agency of Sport and Physical Education Tastanbek Esentayev.

"There is an assignment of the government, according to which we are preparing a presentation for construction of bicycle paths and infrastructure. So far three phases of construction are planned in Astana. The first phase involves about 50 kilometers of bikeways", said Mr.Esentaev at the briefing in Astana.

At that the vice-president of the Agency specified that the bike route would operate both on the main roads of the capital and on the roads leading up to the Expo exhibition center, as well as within the exhibition.

According to Mr.Esentaev, today in Astana there are 4 km of bicycle lanes, while in developed countries, for example , in Germany there are 1,400 km of them, in China - 450 km, and in Moscow - 74 km.
