Astana is a self-sustaining city - Akim Tasmagambetov

ASTANA. December 27. KAZINFORM - Akim of Astana Imangali Tasmagambetov has called our capital a self-sufficient city. "The task of a gradual entry of Astana into the level of self-sufficiency, set by the Head of State, has been implemented. The main criterion for that is a change in Astana income transfers from the national budget and, conversely, increase of its own funds for the development of the city", said the mayor today during the press conference at the office of the Central Communications Service.

According to him, the key indicators show significant structural changes in the economy of the city.

First, according to the mayor, the last few years have seen a marked increase in own revenues in the total revenues from 25 percent in 2008 to 44 percent in 2013. " The share of transfers and credits gradually reduced from 70 percent to 56 percent, respectively," said Mr.Tasmagambetov.

Second, the mayor says, the gross regional product of Astana in the current year is estimated to be KZT 2.7 trillion (tenge), which is more than two times more than in 2008.

Thirdly, according to his information, at the appropriate rate, averaging 30 percent, are increasing revenues to the state budget: - from 269 billion tenge in 2008 to 600 billion tenge in 2013, or more than twice. He stressed that the costs of the local budget was only one-fifth of total revenues. With these funds full funding for all current and social costs of the capital are provided.

"And the fourth point is investment. Since the beginning of creating a capital 4.8 trillion tenge have been invested in its economy, including public funds - almost 2 trillion tenge, or 40 percent. Thus, if in 1998 the share of the budget accounted for 62 percent, then in 2013 it dropped to 34 percent. That is almost twice the total investment. In contrast, the share of private investors has increased from 38 percent in 1998 to 66 percent the current year", he concluded.
