Astana hosts ISU World Speed Skating Championships

ASTANA. KAZINFORM - The ISU World Sprint Speed Skating Championships 2015 will kick off in the Alau ice arena in Astana today, February 28.

The two-day event is set to bring together 64 speed skaters from 16 countries of the world. Moreover, participation of 6,000 fans from all corners of the globe is expected as well. Kazakhstan will be represented by 4 athletes at the event, namely Denis Kuzin, Roman Krech, Aleksandr Zhigin and Yekaterina Aidova. According to Vadim Sayutin, the head coach of the national speed skating team, over the past years Kazakhstani sprinters have improved their results considerably. "We have junior champions - Yekaterina Aidova and Denis Kuzin. This championship is of paramount importance. All athletes are in their top shape. And we expect them to show excellent results," he said.
