Astana granted 'CIS Cultural Capital-2012' status
ASTANA. June 15. KAZINFORM Astana has officially become the cultural capital of the Commonwealth of independent States-2012.
Chairman of the Board of the CIS Interstate Humanitarian Cooperation Foundation Polad Bulbuloglu presented the corresponding certificate at the International Forum "Eurasian Culture in the New World" on Friday (June 15) in Astana. The document was handed to Minister of Culture and Information Darkhan Mynbay of Kazakhstan.
"If you picture the map of Eurasia you can clearly see Astana in the heart of the continent. The city is the center of relevant geopolitical and cultural processes. You can't help but admire it. It was a wise political decision to turn a little provincial town Akmola into Astana. Now the city is the capital of independent Kazakhstan," Polad Bulbuloglu said.
