Asiad-2011: Biathletes hope for good weather
ALMATY. February 3. KAZINFORM It is impossible to control the weather, the fog may appear tomorrow too but we hope the race will take place, Kazakhstan's biathlete Marina Lebedeva said commenting on the 15 km individual race postponed until tomorrow due to bad weather conditions.
The competitions were postponed for half an hour and then started but after one lap the referees decided to cancel the race. The conditions of ski trails were extremely bad and the fog reduced the visibility to see shooting targets.
The official statement says the event will start tomorrow at 11 a. m. The men's race will begin at 1 p.m.
According to M. Lebedeva, the peculiarity of this race is sharpshooting because a penalty for each miss is one minute added to the total time of a sportsman. 'The weather changes too rapidly so it is just unfair to run. We were not able to see the target at all but in 10 minutes the fog might clear up. The decision to postpone the race and hold it tomorrow is the right one', she said.
