Asiad 2011: Alexander Chervyakov won 13th gold for Kazakhstan in men's 12.5 km pursuit

ASTANA. February 2. KAZINFORM Kazakh biathlete Alexander Chervyakov became the winner of men's 12.5 km pursuit. His time was 35 min 42.8 sec.

The second result was shown by the Japanese Nagai Junji who was 34.4 sec behind the winner. Chinese Ren Long was the third, 58.7 sec behind Chervyakov.

The winner of yesterday sprint left the start with a 6-second advantage over Ren Long. But the Chinese athlete closed the gap, so Chervyakov and Ren came to the 1st shooting range approximately at the same time. They Kazakh athlete made his shooting faster and left the Chinese 9.4 seconds behind. Meanwhile the bronze winner of the sprint Nagai Junji hit all five targets and closed a 34-second gap between him and Chervyakov.

The second shooting left no chance for the gold to Ren Long. He missed twice while Chervyakov and Nagai hit all the targets. As a result the Chinese athlete was more than a minute behind the leader. The 3rd shooting was not good for the Kazakh Chervyakov, he missed 3 shots. But Nagai Junji was not able to use the opportunity and also missed 3 shots. At the last shooting range the Japanese and the Kazakh athletes missed one shot each and due to faster speed Alexander Chervyakov won the gold medal.
