ArselorMittal Temirtau fined KZT 504 mln for damage to environment

KARAGANDA. March 29. KAZINFORM "ArselorMittal Temirtau" JSC was fined KZT 504 million for noxious emissions overcharge to the environment," press secretary of special interregional economic court of Karaganda region Indira Kuspayeva has informed at the briefing.

"The audit found a violation of environmental compliance in the form of unresolved (excess) emission of pollutants into the environment in the course of business. As a result, the environment has been damaged, " the adversary proceeding notes.

The decision has not come into force. "It may be challenged on appeal. Or the defendant, explaining the reason for non-appearance of a representative at the hearing, has the right to submit to the Economic Court the application to set aside a default judgment," I. Kuspaeva added.

"ArcelorMittal Temirtau" JSC is a member of ArcelorMittal global company, and is the largest mining company of the metals sector in Kazakhstan. It includes the steel plant in Temirtau, 8 coal mines in the Karaganda region, four mine iron ore in Karaganda, Akmola and Kostanay regions.
