Armed conflict occurred b/w Kyrgyz and Tajik border guards
BISHKEK. January 12. KAZINFORM - According to the Department of Public Relations and Media of the State Border Service (SBS) of the Kyrgyz Republic, an armed conflict has take place in the the Batken region of KR on the border with Tajikistan.
According to SBS KR, Tajik border guards started to use weapons against Kyrgyz servicemen. Special forces chief of border troops of Tajikistan opened fire on Kyrgyz border guards. It was also reported that the Tajik side, except for small arms, used mine throwers.
In connection with the incident the State Border Service of the Kyrgyz Republic called on the Tajik side to give an explanation on the fact of weapons use against Kyrgyz servicemen and gross violations of Tajik border guards' line of conduct on the Kyrgyz-Tajik state border. In addition Kyrgyz Border Service insists on holding a joint investigation.
According to official information 5 Kyrgyz soldiers have been wounded in the shootout. Victims are under medical supervision in the Batken Regional Hospital. Tajik soldiers are injured as well.
