Another journalist shot in Philippines
MANILA. January 27. KAZINFORM Another journalist was shot on Wednesday night in the Philippines, the second shooting on journalists in the country within a week. Kazinform refers to Xinhua.
The victim, Lemuel Fernandez, publisher and editor of the Western Visayas Daily Guardian, was attacked and wounded at around 9:30 p.m. by a lone assassin in front of their office in the city of Iloilo, Francis Allan Angelo, the newspaper's managing editor, told local radio stations Thursday.
Accordingly, the gunman, clad in white shirt and short pants, shot his target at the head from behind when he was about to board his vehicle.
On Monday, Jerry Ortega, a commentator of the Radio Mindanao Network Palawan, suffered bullet wounds in the head and body after he was shot in Puerto Princesa City. The killing is said to be related with his scathing commentary on graft in the local government and mining projects development.
