Almaty region's poverty level made 0.3%

KAZINFORM /Sandugash Duissenova/ In 2003 Almaty region was one of the first regions of Kazakhstan to provide social assistance to recipients of the targeted social assistance for development of personal subsidiary economy and opening of own business. Head of the regional department of employment and social programs Umsan Balabiyeva has made it public today.
According to her, the implementation of this program for last seven years allowed to essentially reduce poverty in the region. 8 537 families have bought over 18 thousand heads of different cattle for personal household to the amount of KZT 506.5 mln for this period. As the result, average monthly per capita income of poor people increased by 6.8% and made KZT 3 247.
The rate of population with incomes below the subsistence minimum was reduced from 30.3% in 2005 to 4.1% in 2010, while the rate of population living below the national poverty line - from 2.3% to 0.6%.
As of January 1, 2011, 5 681 people were registered as recipients of the state targeted social assistance. Thus, the poverty level made 0.3% in the region.
