Alexander Volkov, Kazakhstan Deputy Foreign Minister, met with Miroslav Jenca, Special Representative of the UN Secretary General
ALMATY. November 22. KAZINFORM Within the framework of Kazakhstan's chairmanship in the United Nations Special Programme for the Economies of Central Asia (SPECA), on November 19-22 Economic Forum "Comprehensive and Sustainable Development through Regional Cooperation" as well as the SPECA Governing Council were held in Almaty.
The UN Special Programme for the Economies of Central Asia was initiated by N.Nazarbayev and established in 1998 by the UN. Currently, the programme implementation involves Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan and Afghanistan.
Implementation of the SPECA has been carried out with organizational and expert support of the UN Economic Commission for Europe and the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific. It aims to assist the involved states in deepening their mutual cooperation, promoting their economic development and integration of the economies of Europe and Asia.
SPECA is very important for strengthening cooperation in such key areas as poverty alleviation, sustainable and equitable use of water and energy resources, the expansion of foreign trade and facilitation of customs procedures, improvement of transport infrastructure, and development of the green economy.
On November 21, as part of the event, Alexei Volkov, Deputy Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan met with Miroslav Jenca, Special Representative of the UN Secretary General, Head of the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia.
They discussed the cooperation growth with Afghanistan both in bilateral and multilateral format, as well as regional partnership in Central Asia.
