AIRANBAY MAUSOLEUM

anaby (Airanbaitam, Beskumbez) Mausoleum is an historical and architectural monument of the XIX century. It is situated at the bank of Sarykengir River of Ulytau municipality in Karaganda region at the 110 km to the north-east of Zhezkazgan city. It is one of the best mausoleums of five-cupola type in Central Kazakhstan.

The necropolis consists of two main constructions of Airanbay Mausoleum and portal-domical mazar including small ruined saganatams made of raw bricks and stone. The walls of the five-cupola construction are fronted with burnt brick. The front faces are decorated with rhombs composed of light and dark burnt stones. The entrance to the mausoleum is a narrow not high corridor with flat niches.

Two main constructions of the necropolis have a great value in studying of the architectural history of Kazakhstan in XIX century. It was built in 1870. The overall area of the mausoleum is 9.75х8.25 m, the height is 6.25 m.

In 1974 the mausoleum was studied by the Central-Kazakhstan Expedition of Ministry of Culture of Kazakh SSR (M. Amanbayev, M. Sembin. M. Nurkabayev).

In 1982 it was studied by the expedition of Zhezkazgan local history museum of the Central Social Service on Protection of Historical and Cultural Monuments of Kazakh SSR.

Airanbay Mausoleum can be related to the monuments of history and culture of the national value (by the Decree of Council of Ministries of Kazakh SSR, Nr. 133 as of 17.02.1949).
