Afghan suicide car bombing kills 11 in Khost city
LONDON. February 18. KAZINFORM At least 11 people have been killed in a suicide car bombing in the eastern Afghan province of Khost, police say; Kazinform refers to BBC News.
The attack, which targeted a police checkpoint in a crowded area of Khost city, left many wounded.
Police became suspicious of a driver and opened fire prompting him to detonate his bomb, the provincial police chief told the BBC.
The restive province, on the border with Pakistan, has long been a target for Taliban militants.
"It was very powerful. It shook Khost city," Associated Press quoted police chief Abdul-Hakim Isaqzai as saying. He said security forces had surrounded the area and ambulances were taking the injured to hospital.
Reports said the blast sent a thick plume of black smoke into the air; Kazinform cites BBC News.
