Adjusted proposals to reorganize EurAsEC by May 2012
MOSCOW. March 20. KAZINFORM Adjusted proposals to reorganize the Eurasian Economic Community will be prepared by May 2012, Vice Premier of Belarus Sergei Rumas told media on 19 March.
The official said a session of the Eurasian Economic Commission Council took place in Moscow on 19 March. The EurAsEC reorganization in line with instructions issued by the heads of state at the previous summit of the organization on 19 December 2011 was in the center of attention. Yet differences of opinions indicate the matter has not been polished yet. The summit of the heads of state at the session of the EurAsEC Interstate Council on that day confirmed it. The presidents instructed their governments to continue consultations and prepare proposals for an informal meeting of the presidents within the CIS framework in May 2012, BelTA reports.
According to Sergei Rumas, the Belarusian side was ready to ink the treaty [to reorganize EurAsEC into a new integration body] but the idea did not meet support of other EurAsEC members. Therefore, new proposals will have to be worked out within two months.
The 19 March session of the Eurasian Economic Commission Council also discussed tariff protection of vulnerable products. The international positioning of the Eurasian Economic Commission and organizational matters relating to the start of the board's operation were also discussed.
