About 50,000 Muslims expected to gather at Moscow main mosque
MOSCOW. November 27. KAZINFORM The main Islamic holiday Kurban-Bayram is marked in Russia this Friday together with Muslims all over the world, Kazinform refers to Itar-Tass.
Local authorities in some Russian regions of traditional Islamic population declare it a day off. Russian television will broadcast live the celebration from the main mosques of Ufa and Moscow.
About 50,000 Muslims are expected to gather in the capital's cathedral mosque. The number of parishioners has increased as many workers arrived in Moscow from Central Asia and Caucasian republics in recent years.
Police will close the nearby streets for traffic and ensure public order and security during the holiday, a source at the Moscow mayor's office said. Such security measures will be taken also near other mosques located at Bolshaya Tatarskaya, Minskaya and Khachaturyana Streets in the city.
