About 3 500 people in Kazakhstan, 5 5000 in Russia annually get lung cancer

ASTANA. September 7. KAZINFORM "In most people, lung cancer is related to cigarette smoking. It is not a myth, it is a reality," Russian oncologists who arrived in Astana to participate in the VII Congress of Oncologists and Radiologists agree unanimously.

"Although some people who have never smoked also get lung cancer. Undoubtedly, smoking is the leading cause and 85% of diseases are related to smoking," Professor Sergey Orlov from Saint Petersburg said.

According to him, it is easier to treat patients who have never smoked a cigarette. 15% of those nonsmoking of the total amount of lung cancer patients achieved better results. There are special drugs which let increase survival in lung cancer by two or three times.
