Abai scientific and cultural center opens in Samarkand

A solemn ceremony of opening a scientific and cultural center named after Abai and a Kazakh language and literature department of Abai University took place at the Rashidov Samarkand State University, Kazinform News Agency cites the press service of the Kazakh Ministry of Science and Higher Education.

The opening of the center and the Kazakh language and literature department of Abai University aims at strengthening intercultural ties between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, promote literature heritage of great poet and thinker Abai, increase the interest of the youth in language learning. The center is set to foster multicultural personality and enhance spiritual ties between students of the universities.

Attending the event were the representatives of the Kazakh Ministry of Science and Higher Education and the Uzbek Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, ambassador of Kazakhstan to Uzbekistan Beibut Atamkulov, rector of the Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University Bolat Tlep, rector of the Samarkand State University Rustam Khalmuradov.

Opening of a scientific and cultural center named after Abai and a Kazakh language and literature department is a significant step towards enhancing ties and deepening cooperation in the field of education and culture. This is the seventh largest Abai Center in the world established by Abai University. I’m certain that the center will become not only a platform for exchanging knowledge and experiences, but also will enhance the promotion of friendship and mutual understanding between the Turkic speaking nations, said Tlep.

To note, the language and literature center named after Navoiy to study and promote the works of the great son of the Uzbek nation was opened at the Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University this year. Presently, 148 students from Uzbekistan are studying at the Kazakh University.

In May 2024, the Kazakh language and culture scientific and education center named after Abai was opened at the Institute of Philology and Intercultural Communication of the Kazan Federal University in Tatarstan.
