8th Mongolian Children's Winter Sports Festival kicks off
The 8th Mongolian Children's Sports Festival is taking place on February 17-24, 2025. This biennial sports festival is organized to develop winter sports, discover future star athletes, and promote a healthy and active lifestyle among younger generations, MONTSAME reports.
Held under the slogan "Let's Compete Fairly for Our Dreams," the sports festival features seven main sports, including speed skating, short track speed skating, snowboarding, alpine skiing, ice hockey, cross-country skiing, and Special Olympics snowshoeing, and additional event in Special Olympics cross-country skiing, making a total of eight competitions. In total, 546 young athletes are competing for 478 medals, testing their speed, agility, and skills.
As part of the sports festival, ice hockey matches are taking place at the Ice Hockey Arena in the Chingeltei district of Ulaanbaatar, short track and speed skating events in Khandgait, and cross-country skiing in Orkhon aimag.
Athletes who perform successfully and earn medals in the 8th Mongolian Children's Winter Sports Festival will receive monetary prizes. Specifically, gold medalists will receive MNT 600,000, silver medalists MNT 400,000, and bronze medalists MNT 200,000. The total prize fund for the winter sports festival is MNT 190 million.
To note, Mongolia will hold the Ten Thousand Camel Festival to promote winter tourism.
