77 sent to hospital as lightning hits Miss. military base
BEIJING. June 9. KAZINFORM Seventy-seven military personnel were sent to hospital after a lightning hit a southern Mississippi military training base, according to media reports on Wednesday; Kazinform refers to Xinhuanet.
"Camp Shelby Joint Forces Training Center is currently sending 77 Air Force Cadet personnel to local hospitals in the Hattiesburg area for medical evaluation," the U.S. Army said in a statement.
The soldiers taken to the hospital were responsive and in stable condition, the statement read.
As U.S. largest state-owned military training center, Camp Shelby near Hattiesburg has 136,000 acres cut out of southern Mississippi's rolling hills and pine forests. It features mock cities designed to look like Iraq and Afghanistan to give soldiers realistic training; Kazinform cites Xinhuanet.
