The conference addressed the role of the UN in maintaining peace and security in the world, sustainable development, environmental security, promotion of human rights and democratic values, as well as enhancement of cooperation with Kazakhstan. Particular attention was paid to the idea of establishing a regional center of the United Nations (hub) in Almaty. It is notable that he idea was first proposed by the Head of State at a meeting with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon in September 2011.
