7-year-old boy abandoned by his father on Mount Fuji
The child was rescued two hours later after mountain hut staff reported seeing him alone, Qazinform News Agency reports, citing Kyodo.
According to the Fujinomiya Police Station, a 7‑year‑old boy was abandoned by his father at the 6th station of the Fujinomiya trail on Mount Fuji’s Shizuoka side on August 20.
The boy, an elementary school student from Nagoya, Japan's Aichi Prefecture, had started ascent at around 7 am that day with his father and older brother, a junior high school student. About 15 minutes later, they reached the 6th station, where the boy got tired and began to fuss. His father then told him to “wait here for about eight hours” before continuing upward with his elder son.
The boy was not injured.
Mountain hut staff noticed the child sitting alone and alerted police.
Officers contacted the father, who had already climbed near the 8th station. He was ordered to return, given a stern verbal warning, and the boy was handed back to him.
A police spokesperson urged climbers to prioritize safety: “When climbing in groups, please adjust the pace to the member with the least stamina and avoid becoming separated.”
Earlier, it was reported that four workers killed by train in Japan's Tochigi Prefecture.
