7,000 elderly people in Kazakhstan live at retirement homes - President

ASTANA. KAZINFORM - More than 7 thousand elderly people in Kazakhstan live at retirement homes, President Nursultan Nazarbayev has said today at the awarding ceremony of the National Competition Mereili Otbasy in Astana, the Akorda's official Twitter account says.

The President added that those elders mostly have healthy and successful children. Nursultan Nazarbayev harshly criticized the people who send their parents or children to homes for elderly people or orphanages. "It's a shame that people give up their children or put their parents in retirement homes," the Kazakh leader said.
