NEW DELHI. KAZINFORM - At least six people were killed and 14 others injured in a major explosion at an illegal cracker factory in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh on Saturday, a senior police officer said.
"The explosion happened this morning when the victims were making crackers in the illegal factory at Mohanlalganj in state capital Lucknow," he said on condition of anonymity.
While six bodies have been recovered from the explosion site, those injured were rushed to a nearby hospital where the condition of some are said to be serious, the officer said.
A probe has been ordered into the incident, he added.
Blasts in cracker factories are common in India because of poor fire safety standards, Xinhua reported Saturday.
