50 Kazakh athletes to fight for medals at 2014 Summer Youth Olympic Games

ASTANA. KAZINFORM - 50 athletes from Kazakhstan are set to partake in the Nanjing 2014 Summer Youth Olympic Games in China, according to Yelsiyar Kanagatov, deputy chairman of the Kazakh Agency for Sports and Physical Culture Affairs.

"Our sportsmen have won 42 licenses in 21 types of sport and are going to take active part in the 2014 Summer Youth Olympics," Mr. Kanagatov told the Friday meeting of the agency staff. In his words, future Olympians are trained at the special Olympic training centers, except for ping pong players. "We hope that our athletes will be able to clinch gold in Greco-Roman wrestling, weightlifting and boxing, silver -in freestyle wrestling and boxing and bronze - in taekwondo, judo, swimming and modern pentathlon. We'll see," Mr. Kanagatov added. "Our top priority is to improve results of the previous games." Kazakhstan was ranked 24th in overall medal standing at the last Summer Youth Olympics.
