5-sided moratorium on sturgeon fishing in the Caspian Sea being developed
ASTANA. October 7. KAZINFORM - The question on introduction of the five-sided moratorium on sturgeon fishing in the Caspian Sea is being worked out. This has been stated by the Minister of Environmental Protection Mr. Kapparov at the Government Hour in the Majilis.
"Within the framework of the Commission on Aquatic Bioresources of the Caspian Sea there is consideration of the issue of introducing five-sided moratorium on fishing sturgeon fish species. Kazakhstan has already introduced such a ban, " said N.Kapparov, noting that the Urals is the only river, where there are still places for natural sturgeon spawning.
The Minister stressed that the preservation of sturgeon is one of the most important environmental problems. In Kazakhstan annually in conjunction with law enforcement and environmental agencies to pool waters there is conducted protection action called "Bekire" aimed at protecting sturgeon and fight against illegal fishing. Each year state-owned enterprises let go to reservoirs in the country 158 million units of reared juveniles of valuable fish species. In the framework there will be developed Fisheries Development Programme until 2020.
