4.5 bln cu m of water accumulated at Shardara reservoir in south of Kazakhstan

The Shradara reservoir accumulated 4.5 billion cubic meters of water so far that is 1.87 billion cubic meters more compared to the same period of 2024, Kazinform News Agency reports.

Of which 800 million cubic were sent to the lakes in Kyzylorda, and over 900 million cubic meters to the Northern Aral, Kazakh Water Resources and Irrigation Minister Nurzhan Nurzhigitov said after the meeting with his Uzbek counterpart Shavkat Khamrayev in Tashkent.

As earlier reported, the 88th Interstate Commission for Water Coordination of Central Asia was held in Dushanbe on January 29.

Those attending the event were the heads of water agencies of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan.

The participants discussed the issues related to the irrigation interval in the basins of the Syrdarya and Amudarya rivers.

Addressing the meeting, Minister Nurzhan Nurzhigitov said by April 2025, Kazakhstan will receive 11 billion cubic meters of water from the Central Asian countries.
