40 injured in two train collision in Western Switzerland

GENEVA, July 30. KAZINFORM. - Two trains collided into each other on Monday at the exit of the Granges-pres-Marnand train station in the western Canton of Vaud in Switzerland, leaving some 40 injured, according to XINHUA.

An official with the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) comfirmed the accident in a telephone interview with Xinhua, but the death toll was unknown at the moment.

It was reported that the head-on collision occurred around 7 p.m. local time when one train arrived at the station and the other departed, leaving around 40 passengers injured, with several in critical conditions.

The Vaud Canton Police said in a statement that one of the train drives is still not reached by rescuers at the moment. A Vaud cantonal policeman said that policemen and rescue members have rushed into the scene, southwest of the Swiss capital Bern. A helicopter was also on site.

According to local media reports, a rail replacement bus service was in place. Rail traffic between Moudon and Payerne is interrupted. The details of the accident remain unknown and the investigation is underway.
