4 hurt by bomb in restive S. Thailand
BANGKOK. June 13. KAZINFORM Two soldiers and two village defence volunteers were injured on Wednesday when a roadside bomb exploded in restive southern province of Narathiwat, Bangkok Post online reported, according to Xinhua.
Witnesses told police that a village chief of a village in Narathiwat's Chanae district on Wednesday morning reported to soldiers of a security unit in the village that he found a suspicious box left near a roadside sign post in front of his house.
The soldiers and defence volunteers went to the spot and while they were inspecting the box the 5 k.g. home-made bomb hidden inside it was remotely detonated, injuring four of them.
The bomb victims, ranger Adul Rattanasuanchit, ranger Arthit Kamchan, and defence volunteers Aring Sasaw and Assaree Uma were taken to Chanae hospital.
Police blamed separatist militants.
More than 5,000 people have been killed and over 8,400 hurt in the three southernmost provinces of Yala, Pattani and Narathiwat, since violence erupted in January 2004, according to Deep South Watch -- an agency that monitors the conflict in the southernmost provinces.
