'Forgotten Ones of Karaganda' Kazakh-Spanish film wins another international award in Jakarta
ASTANA. KAZINFORM - The Spanish-Kazakh film The Forgotten Ones of Karaganda (Los olvidados de Karagandá) won the the Gold Award in the nomination of European Documentary at the Documentary & Short International Movie Award Jakarta, AKI Press informs.
The documentary has earlier won the Diamond Awards in the Best Documentary nomination at the California Film Awards. The documentary tells the story of 152 Spaniards held in a Soviet labor camp who had different political ideas but were united by the desire to survive. The project is the fruit of Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy's September 2013 visit to Kazakhstan, where Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev presented him with a list of the names of 152 Spaniards who were held in Stalin-era labor camps in the Kazakh region of Karaganda, according to EFE.
