35 killed, 38 wounded in Moscow metro blasts

MOSCOW. March 29. KAZINFORM. A total of 35 people were killed and 38 wounded in the two blasts that rocked the Moscow metro stations of Lubyanka and Park Kultury early on Monday, a spokeswoman for the Russian Emergencies Ministry told Itar-Tass; Kazinform refers to Itar-Tass.

"A total of 23 people were killed in the explosion at the Lubyanka station, both on the platform and inside the train car. And 12 people were killed at the Park Kultury station," Irina Adrianova said.

According to Adrianova, an explosion occurred at 07:57 a.m. Moscow time at the Lubyanka station in the second car of a train bound from the Chistye Prudy station. Another blast occurred at 08:16 a.m. Moscow time at the Park Kultury station in the train bound from the Frunzenskaya station.

Following these terrorist acts came media reports about explosions at other metro stations, she said adding that neither of such reports was confirmed. "There were only two blasts in the Moscow metro," she stressed.

Meanwhile, earlier reports from the Russian Emergencies Ministry said 49 injured in the Moscow metro blasts had been hospitalised.

According to still earlier reports, the death toll in the two terrorist acts was 34 people, and 37 were injured; Kazinform cites Itar-Tass.
