2nd Greek-Kazakhstan Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic and Technological Cooperation held in Athens
ASTANA. octoner 17. KAZINFORM 2nd Greek-Kazakhstan Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic and Technological Cooperation was held in Athens on 14-15 October 2013. The two days event was co-chaired by Kazakhstan Deputy Foreign Minister Alexei Volkov.
The Kazakhstan delegation included representatives from Ministries for Environment, Agriculture, Transport and Communications, Labour and Social Welfare, Industry and New Technologies.
Discussions covered cooperation in sectors of energy, environment, road and air transport, agriculture, civil service, tourism, labor and social protection, as well as renewable energy. Kazakhstan delegation suggested to consider regional cooperation development, including establishment of the closer ties between Almaty and Athens. The two delegations agreed to hold the next round of talks in Astana.
On the sidelines of the event, the Greek and Kazakhstan delegations held a separate Joint Commission Meeting on Road Transport.
While in Athens, Alexei Volkov met with leaders of the Greek Ministries for Foreign Affairs, Tourism, Public Order and Citizen Protection, and members of "Kazakhstan-Greece" Friendship Group of the Greek Parliament.
During the bilateral talks, the Kazakhstan and Greek delegations discussed the bilateral and multilateral cooperation, including prospects of cooperation in trade, investment, tourism, expansion of the bilateral legal base, business contacts, and reaffirmed their mutual support for Kazkahstan's and Greece's bids for non-permanent seat at the UN Security Council for 2017-2018 and 2025-2026, respectively.
In turn, the Greek delegation reassured its readiness to provide assistance to Kazakhstan in promoting its cooperation with the European Union during Greece's EU presidency in the first half of 2014.
