2010 Nobel Prizes to be announced in early October
STOCKHOLM. September 22. KAZINFORM The announcements of the 2010 Nobel prize decisions were set to be in early October as usual, according to the prize awarding institutions; Kazinform refers to Xinhua.
The Nobel Assembly at Karolinska Institute said Tuesday that the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 2010 will be announced on Oct. 4 in Nobel Forum in Karolinska Institute.
The announcing time will be at 11:30 a.m. at the earliest, the Assembly said in a statement.
The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has stated earlier that the Nobel Prize in Physics will be announced on Oct. 5 in the Academy.
The Nobel Prize in Chemistry will be announced on Oct.6 and the Economic Prize in memory of Alfred Nobel will be announced on Oct. 11 in the Academy in Stockholm.
The Nobel Foundation said that the Nobel Peace Prize will be announced on Oct.8 in Oslo, Norway.
It is very likely that the Nobel Prize in Literature will be announced on Oct. 7. But so far, the Swedish Academy which is responsible for the selection of Literature Prize has not made any announcement about the timing.
The Nobel Prizes have been awarded since 1901, according to Alfred Nobel's will, to those who "conferred the greatest benefit on mankind during the preceding year."
The annual Nobel Prizes are usually announced in October and handed out on Dec. 10, the anniversary of the 1896 death of Nobel, a Swedish industrialist and the inventor of dynamite.
Each prize consists of a medal, a diploma and a cash award of some 10 million Swedish kronor (about 1.53 million U.S. dollars).
