2 traffic police officers jailed for bribery-extortion in Uralsk

ASTANA. KAZINFORM - Uralsk city court has announced the verdict in the criminal case against two traffic police officers for bribery-extortion, according to the website of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Traffic police officers J.Kushkinbayev and K. Koshai stopped a passing car which driver appeared intoxicated. The drunk driver was asked to pay a bribe in the amount of 200 thousand tenge. However, due to the lack of funds, the required amount was reduced to 50 thousand tenge. The next day, the police officers arrived at the place of the driver's residence to receive the money. There they were detained by the officers of financial police. J.Kushkinbayev was sentenced to 7 years and 6 months in jail with confiscation of property and deprivation of the right to hold positions in law enforcement for a period of 5 years. K.Koshai was sentenced to 7 years imprisonment with confiscation of property and deprivation of the right to hold positions in law enforcement for a period of 5 years.
