2 killed, 260 more evacuated as fire breaks out at Cardiac Surgery Institute in Bishkek
Two patients who were in the intensive care unit of the Institute of Cardiac Surgery in Bishkek when the fire broke out have died, Minister of Health Erkin Checheibaev said, Kabar reports.
According to him, the fire started in the basement, and the building was filled with smoke.
“There were patients on artificial ventilation after surgery in the intensive care unit. Due to the fire, patients were evacuated to the neighboring building of the Cardiology Center, but despite resuscitation measures, two patients died. Currently, there are two adult patients and seven children in the intensive care unit of the Cardiology Center. All appropriate measures are being taken,” the minister said.
As a result of the incident, 260 people, including 216 patients and 44 medical personnel were evacuated.
As earlier reported, the fire erupted at the 12-storey Grand Kartal hotel at 03:27 pm local time on Tuesday in Bolu province killing 76 people and injuring 51 more. 234 guests were staying at the hotel when the fire broke out in January this year.
