To date the WHO has recorded around 254, 000 laboratory-confirmed flu cases. Separate pharmaceutical companies announced in July that vaccine was available. However it must be approved by regulating authorities.

Director of Initiative for Vaccine Research at the WHO Dr. Marie-Paule Kieny said the vaccine would not be distributed on private market, governmental authorities would define who would be vaccinated first. The United State of America decided to immunize children first. The World Health Organization actively negotiates with the manufacturers, governments and donors to ensure developing countries' access to the vaccine as soon as possible.
