19, 000 fires occur in Kazakhstan every year - Ministry of Emergencies
ASTANA. April 22. KAZINFORM /Serik Sabekov/ About 19 thousand fires occur in Kazakhstan every year. Official Spokesperson of the Emergencies Ministry Lyubov Shaposhnikova said it at a briefing today.
"6 thousand of them occur in rural areas due to increasing number of steppe fires", she clarified.
According to L. Shaposhnikova, last year the firefighting departments of the country responded to about 600 steppe fires which covered the area of 140 thousand ha. The damage from them is estimated at KZT 47 thousand. 1 died and 2 people got injuries in them.
Besides, as the Official Spokesperson added, over 600 wildfires occurred last year damage from which is estimated at KZT 300 mln. The area of the fire made 11, 700 ha. The majority of wildfires broke out in Akmola region (164), North Kazakhstan region (121), Pavlodar region (113) and East Kazakhstan region (95).
