18 people nominated as presidential hopefuls in Kirgizia

BISHKEK. May 19. KAZINFORM. The nomination of presidential hopefuls ended in the Republic of Kyrgyzstan on Monday. Eighteen people presented all the documents that are necessary for registration, an official at the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) of the republic has told Itar-Tass; Kazinform refers to Itar-Tass.

The list includes the names of incumbent Kyrgyz Head of State Kurmanbek Bakiyev, and members of the united opposition: ex-Premier Almazbek Atambayev, as well as former Defence Minsiter and ex-Secretary of the national Security Council Ismail Isakov. Until June 2, CEC officials will be now checking up the data presented by the hopefuls. One month later contenders for the presidency, upon successfully passing an examination for the knowledge of the Kyrgyz language and collecting 50,000 signatures of constituents, will be registered by the CEC and will be able to launch an electioneering campaign.
