1721 km of Western Europe-Western China highway to be opened to traffic by yearend
A total of 1721 kilometers of "Western Europe - Western China" highway will be opened to traffic by the end of this year, Minister of Transport and Communications of Kazakhstan Askar Zhumagaliyev told a briefing in the Central Communications Service, Kazinform refers to primeminister.kz.
"710 kilometers of the highway have already been laid. 915 km were opened to traffic. So, a total of 1721 km will be opened by the end of the year," Zhumagaliyev said.
The Minister stressed that international standards of construction quality control were applied during the construction of the highway "Western Europe - Western China".
"If we talk about the project in general, we can say that this year we have reached the finish line. Construction of the last sections of the international transport corridor has been started. Preparatory work on Tashkent-Shymkent section will begin in the near future," he added.
The construction of the highway of international significance began in 2009. The total length of the international transit corridor is 8445 km. The length of the road via the territory of Kazakhstan is 2787 km, of which 2452 km are subject to reconstruction.
"Western Europe - Western China" project will raise the transit and export potential of Kazakhstan, open new trade opportunities in terms of integration processes in the Eurasian continent.
