16,000 cases of corruption being investigated in Russia-Bastrykin

ST. PETERSBURG. October 2. KAZINFORM The Russian authorities are investigating a total of 16,000 criminal cases of corruption, including 12,000 opened this year, the chief of the Prosecutor-General's Office Investigation Committee, Alexander Bastrykin, told an enlarged meeting of the agency's staff, Kazinform refers to Itar-Tass.

According to the official, 842 persons having a special status were brought to account, including 500 people's deputies and elected chiefs of local self-governments, fifteen deputies of regional legislatures, 19 judges, 33 prosecutors, 86 lawyers and over 100 police and drugs control service investigators, Kazinform cites Itra-Tass.
