14 tons of marijuana seized in Kazakhstan in 2014
ASTANA. KAZINFORM - 14 tons of marijuana have been seized in Kazakhstan since the beginning of this year, Kazinform has learnt from the press service of the Counterdrug Committee under the Kazakh Internal Affairs Ministry.
The drugs were seized as part of the Koknar-2014 campaign. "14 tons of marijuana have been confiscated in Kazakhstan since the beginning of 2014 while they were being transported to neighboring countries," the press release reads. "A 40-year-old drug smuggler from Zhambyl region was detained with 1.2 tons of marijuana -the latest large party confiscated by narcotics police." The man was taken in custody for suspected trafficking of marijuana worth of KZT 36 million. In general, 1,894 drug-related crimes have been registered in Kazakhstan over the past 6 months.
