13 out of 88 reservoirs classified as 'clean' in terms of pollution - Environment Ministry
ASTANA. December 24. KAZINFORM - In Kazakhstan 13 out of 88 reservoirs are classified in terms of pollution as "clean", said today at the meeting of the Government the Minister of Environment and Water Resources Mr. Kapparov.
"As for the quality of drinking water, poor technical condition of a significant part of municipal infrastructure affects the quality of industrial and drinking water. In 2012 only 13 out of the 88 reservoirs have been classified in terms of pollution as "clean", he stated.
According to him, the program for water resources management, which has been adopted by the Government today , includes a set of measures to clean up and remediation of water bodies throughout the country as on specially protected natural territories and beyond their boundaries.
"Standards for drinking water quality in general, conform to the European ones, but a number of parameters need to be adjusted. Wastewater quality standards are outdated, they are difficult to use, contradictory and are more complex than the European ones. Lack of transparency in relation to the real quality of drinking water and waste water quality compliance to accepted standards", the minister added.
