12,000 pedestrians in Astana fined during 6 months

ASTANA. July 19. KAZINFORM - According to the statistics department of traffic police today there have been identified nearly 12,000 violations by pedestrians, the total amount of fines is KZT103 million, the press-service of the law enforcement agency says.

Among the major violations of pedestrians in the lead is crossing a roadway at unestablished places and at a red light.

Every day road inspectors identify 30 to 50 pedestrian offenders, and they are getting educated by the traffic police.

Despite the preventive measures taken by traffic police, pedestrians continue to ignore the rules of the road, often becoming responsible for road traffic accidents. For 6 months of the year due to the fault of pedestrians there have occurred 74 road accidents, which killed 7 and Injured 70. The share of accidents involving pedestrians from the total number is 60 percent.

In order to prevent and reduce traffic incidents in Astana every Friday there is a preventive action called "Pedestrian Safety". Throughout the day, special attention is given to pedestrians crossing the road area in the wrong place.

"Violation of traffic rules in accordance with the administrative law (Article 473 of the Administrative Code of Kazakhstan), means a fine of 5 MCI (monthly calculated index) (or KZT 8,655). For systematic violations pedestrians face a fine of 15 MCI or administrative arrest for three days, " reminds the press-service of Astana Department of Traffic Police.
