11 injured in Argentina sound system collapse
BUENOS AIRES. October 3. KAZINFORM At least 11 people were injured Sunday in the upscale neighborhood of Belgrano in the Argentine capital when a sound system collapsed upon a group of people attending a charity event, emergency personnel said; Kazinform refers to Xinhua.
The accident happened when a tower with loud speakers for broadcasting music and announcement suddenly collapsed at the University of Palermo.
"One of the women injured in the accident suffered a serious skull trauma," said a spokesman at the Medical and Emergency Service of Buenos Aires, adding that all the injured were quickly sent to nearby hospitals for treatment.
He said that some 7,000 people were participating in the 10-km race which started at 9 a.m. local time (1200 GMT).
The tragedy "happened just as the race finished and the organizers were handing over the prizes" to the winners of the race, said a police official.
