10 things nobody wants to hear you say. Ever

BRISBANE. August 9. KAZINFORM Do you want people to like you? Then start by avoiding these topics of conversation. No matter what happens. 1. I'm so tired. Firstly, it's usually written all over your face if you've had a bad night's sleep, so why draw extra attention to yourself. Take it as a given that everyone around you could also have done with a couple of extra hours shut-eye.

2. Anything related to the regularity of your bowel movements

Or the bowel movements of anyone close to you. Including your baby. This one is pretty self-explanatory. Nobody wants to think about you anywhere near the vicinity of a toilet, let alone what happens when you're in there. Keep it to yourself, or see your doctor.

3. The long and continually-updated chapters of your burgeoning love story
This applies to good and bad love stories. When things are good, people can generally tell because you look pretty good and lucky you! But don't expect anyone to care when things are bad, and all you do is complain and bitch about that person without taking action.

4. Why you don't want to be at work today, tomorrow or forever
For most people, work is a necessity. We also spend more time at work and around our colleagues than we do with our own families. If that's not a good reason to try and enjoy yourself, then what is?

5. How hard it is to find a car park in your city/suburb/shopping centre
Yes, parking or the-lack-of has to be one of the worst bugbears of living in a big city. It wastes time and makes you cranky, but complaining about it won't change anything. Deal with it. Contact your local council. Or use public transport and avoid the problem all together.

6. The countdown to your holiday: "Just five weeks to go!"
We probably should be happy for you, and we probably are. But can we save the chat for when you get back? That way it will be at least interesting. And you can entertain us with photographs and stories of all your adventures. Oh, and when you do get back, please see #3.

7. How cold/hot/rainy it is today
Unless you're currently sitting in another state or country to those around you, take it as a given the weather didn't pass them by. If you're cold/hot/wet, chances are they're cold/hot/wet too. Do we really have to talk about it?

8. Intricate and gory details of your latest dentist visit, childbirth, skiing accident

See also, blood, guts, excruciating hours spent under the knife, anything to do with stitches, broken bones, operations gone wrong, bones bent out of shape and terrible haircuts. And your sex life.

9. How busy you are
So, things are hectic for you right now? Join the club. Busyness is not a measure of a successful life, or even a worthy one. It's not a competition. Busy is normal. It's kind of the point of life. Why not spend time telling us how you're working towards something that you're really excited about.

10. Back in my day...
With all due respect to the older generation, not everything worked better in "your day", it probably just feels like that. Nostalgia has that effect. And regardless of whether it really was better or not, there's no way we're going back. So, let's just move forward.
