Maslikhats and akimats responsible for regions’ welfare
The maslikhat deputies were delegated rights to exert influence on the executive branch, the Head of State, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, addressing the II republican forum of deputies of maslikhats of all levels, Kazinform News Agency cites the Akorda press service.
The President said deputies were empowered with an option to elect akims (mayors and governors) of the regions and cities of republican significance on an alternative basis. Thereupon the maslikhats hold the same responsibility for ensuring the welfare of the regions as akimats.
He noted deputies should first of all properly execute functions of the representative branch and in conformity with the people’s needs. To this end, the President focused on key tasks prioritizing raising the competency of maslikhat deputies.
Kassym-Jomart Tokaye stressed efficiency of maslikhats as a key institute of local self-government directly depends on the professionalism of deputies. The parties that nominate candidates should be interested in skilled and competent deputies. He also suggested parties establish cooperation with the Public Administration Academy to raise the competencies of deputies.
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev underlined deputies should cooperate in person with the population and inform people of their activities.
